Picture this for a moment.

You are sitting on your porch enjoying the early morning of a warm spring day. With your favorite beverage in hand, you begin to speak words of thankfulness and praise as you reflect and meditate on Gods goodness. Looking over your bright spring green grass, you notice your neighbors’ weeds. Not just any old weeds but the puffy white pom poms from dandelions gone wild and you don’t see 2 or 3. The whole border of your lawn and theirs is covered in a downy of white feathered balls with gazillions of seeds attached. Just then, a gust of wind blows in just the right direction. You watch as those white parachutes take flight right into your lawn. Are you kidding me!

Now here’s the choice: Should I focus on the weeds, the seeds, or the wind? If I focus on the weeds, I could judge my neighbor with all sorts of things from A to Z. If you focus on the seeds you may end up concluding that a hillside of dandelions is not a terrible thing for those who eat the dandelion for nutritional value. Creator God has made them to use from tea to salads. But not on my lawn, I have tea bags and lettuce in my house. Furthermore, the tiny featherlike parachutes that each man a seed on its end…come on! That is our God.

If you focus on the wind you may end up cursing the One who brought it to you for refreshment that morning. It may be a divine breath from Holy Spirit for your weary soul or a wind of change to you that is born of the Spirit.

I offered my unsettled feelings to the Lord and He lovingly said, “Keep your eyes on your own lawn. Hasn’t it been prepared?” I remembered then that it had been treated for weeds and such by a professional. God is so good to use these things in the natural to speak to us.

In this season where weeds, seeds and winds of all kinds are swirling let’s focus on this:

Our own lawn. Our own heart where if prepared and residing in Christ we can trust Him with what is swirling around us. Sometimes He reveals a seed or weed that is in us. He absolutely loves those He disciplines. He desires truth in our most inward parts and if we allow Him, in His most professional way, will do the lawn treatment. Let us prepare our hearts daily, abiding and remaining in the rich blood drenched soil of His presence so we need not fear or worry what may be in and around us.

As the spring season unfolds and the evidence of what has laid dormant appears, let us be quick to call the Professional of our hearts to come and sit with us awhile and talk over our plan of care. As He comes, we will feel the sweet wind of His refreshing Spirit wash over us and fill us anew for another day.
